Edit Newsletter2008 Outstanding Conservationist 10/15/09
Maple River Schools; represented by Mark Jenzen, Cory Roeker, and Ted Simon will be honored as outstanding Conservationists at a December 9th luncheon during the annual convention of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) in St. Paul, MN. Blue Earth County Soil and Water Conservation District has selected Maple River Schools because of their outgoing efforts to engage students with conservation topics. The faculty has a genuine desire to create opportunities for students to experience environmental topics first hand. Maple River Schools actively seeks out additional funding and ways to incorporate conservation learning in and outside their classes.

Through our office, the Maple River Schools have been awarded 15 educational grants to fund environmental learning over the past 5 years. Their projects have included the use of the Prairie Ecology Bus Center, tree plantings, stream monitoring, building wood duck houses, storm water stenciling, and visits to the Curtis Speck wetland restoration site.

Yearly, these teachers affect the future by developing new and enhancing old ways of stimulating young minds. We realize that these teachers' actions can often go by unrewarded, and our District wants to shine a light on these educators and the Maple River School system to recognize their hard work.
