| Blue Earth County SWCD selects Eugene Braam as Outstanding Conservationist for 2009.
Blue Earth County SWCD Supervisors have chosen Eugene (Gene) Braam as the Conservationist of the Year for his ongoing conservation efforts in Blue Earth County. Most recently he has continued efforts to stabilizing stream banks on a portion of the LeSueur River using stream barbs.
Gene has taken an enthusiastic interest in land that he feels should be conserved for habitat. When talking to Gene you get a sense of his true passion for the need to manage these natural areas, so that they will be there for future generations. Most of his land has been entered into conservation programs to be preserved for wildlife. Gene spends the majority of his free time maintaining habitat; through plantings, controlling invasive plants, removing garbage, and managing tree habitat.
He truly enjoys offering helpful tips and education to people seeking the benefits of a well managed conservation area. He sees being nominated as Conservationist of the Year as a “way to continue to shine a light on conservation”.
