The involvement of the citizens living in the watershed, local schools and various interest groups is an important part of our program. The Maple River Improvement Project would not be possible without concerned citizens.
To create a healthier watershed the first step is to inform and educate residents who live, work, and play in the watershed.
The Maple River, Blue Earth Area and United South Central School Districts will be eligible for an Education Grant which provides funding for activities including instructor trainings, water quality monitoring, classroom presentations, Prairie Ecology Bus rental, teaching equipment and other teaching aides.
Hold an annual meeting to update concerned citizens on the watershed activities.
Take an annual canoe trip down the river for interested citizens.
We will also communicate with and inform local citizens through a series of articles in the local newspapers.
Storm drain stenciling supplies will be available to any city in the watershed that would like to use them
Develop fact sheets and brochures to distribute to the residents of the watershed.
Build demonstration Rain Gardens for nutrient collection in urban landscapes.
Anyone interested in helping can be involved with the Maple River Improvement Project through the Citizen Stream Monitoring Program
