Overview
Maple River Improvement Project - Includes Both Upper and Lower Maple Watersheds
The project has been granted a continuation until June 12, 2009 in the amount of $ 474,100.
Program Elements
  Tile Intake Alternatives - Rock Inlets or Grass Buffers
   Cost-share of 75% will be provided for Rock Inlets
   An incentive payment of $100/acre/year will be provided for grass buffers after signing a 10 year contract.
  Conservation Cost-share
   Will be provided to land owners to install erosion control practices.
   Practices will include those listed in the NRCS EQIP docket.
   No more than 75% of total project costs shall come from federal or grant dollars.
  Residue Management
   Goals of this practice are to make landowners aware of the need of conservation tillage systems.
  Nutrient and Waste Management
   Find interested landowners to participate in test plots that vary commercial and manure fertilizers.
   We will also offer a $5/acre up to 250 acre signing bonus for landowners who enter a 5-year nutrient management contract through EQIP.
  Drainage
   Hold public meetings regarding drainage system management.
   Expand our GIS mapping system to further help landowners.
   Utilize information gathered from Blue Earth Counties JD-20 and Faribault Counties CD-3 projects.
  Existing Program Promotion and Implementation
   While promoting existing federal programs we hope to demonstrate the need for better water quality management in the Maple River Watershed.
  Harvestable Buffer Strip Implementation
   To insure buffer strips are working effectively the land owner will be responsible for harvesting and removing vegetative growth.
   An incentive payment of $50/acre/year up to 100 acres will be issued after signing a 10 year contract.
